Poop-Cam Shoots Lion Close-Ups

What do you need to take amazing photos of lions? Elephant poop. You need elephant poop*.

The link below has some of the best lion photos I've ever seen, because the photographers removed their own physical presence from the equation. By disguising auto-trigger cameras with mounds of elephant dung, photographers Anup and Manoj Shah got as up-close and personal as you'd ever want.

Safety aside, no human could ever get close enough to grab images like this, and no telephoto lens can mimic this level of intimacy.

The rest of the mechanism was almost as low tech as the elephant dung used as camouflage: An infrared beam that, when broken, fired up two digital cameras. It seems simple, but according to them the important part was not the technology itself. The key here was anticipating the movement of the lions as they roamed Masai Mara in order to prepare the photo traps
