UPDATE 2, HONG KONG en route to Taipei, 0400z:
Typhoon Sinlaku is crawling towards Taiwan after intensifying into powerful typhoon. According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency, Sinlaku is packing sustained winds of 90kts with gusts up to 130kts.
Taiwan’s Central weather bureau have issued typhoon warnings for the island and the storm is expected to make landfall over the eastern side of the island on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
Sinlaku is a slow moving storm which increases the risks off severe flooding and damage. Some forecasts estimate the typhoon could take up to 24 hours to cross Taiwan which if verified could lead to vast quantise of rain falling.

TAIPEI (AFP) — Taiwan's weather bureau warned Thursday of an approaching typhoon which it said was gaining momentum and sweeping toward the island.
Advising residents to take precautions, it said Typhoon Sinlaku was already posing a danger to shipping and was expected to hit northeast of Taiwan over the weekend.
At 2:00 pm (0600 GMT) Thursday, its epicentre was 400 kilometres (240 miles) east of the southernmost tip of Taiwan, the bureau said.
It was packing gusts of 184 kilometres per hour and moving north-northwest, it added.
