Preparing for Disasters
The weather service has a forecast system that keeps the public informed when bad weather is about to strike. My state has a phone system that will call and let us know when a disaster or unusually bad weather is coming our way. It tells us what kind of action to take before it happens.
I got one of these phone calls just the other day. The phone woke me up and a recording said a tornado was heading in our area, to take special precautions.
We should talk with our family members several times just in case certain things happen. They should know how to get out of the house in case of a fire, on either side of the house. Where to meet up at when everyone does get out is very important.
The government has taken special precautions to secure our airports and borders.
They can only do so much and then we have to take care of ourselves.
Being prepared for disasters could determine our survival.
First aid kit
Families and friends
Every family should have a first aid kit and know how to use everything in it. The Red Cross is a wonderful organization that gives classes in case of emergencies. If someone is hurt during a disaster you could be the one that could save their life. This is something the family unit could do together.
Stay in contact with your family and friends. Try and keep your cell phone charged up at all times. Either by your vehicle or find some electricity, I have actually done this before so my family wouldn’t worry about us. Let them know where you are and where you are headed in case of an evacuation. Call them several times while you are away from them so they won’t worry and start calling the police. The police will have enough to take care of during these terrible times.
Make sure your child’s school has all of your phone numbers. Try and get your child to rememorize your main number or put it in their backpacks where they know where it is. Sometimes the schools will dismiss early and need someone to come and pick up the children. There has been many shootings take place in schools lately. Tell your children they are to do as the teacher tells them because it will be for their safety.
There could be lock down take place and you as a parent would want to be there to get your child as soon as possible. Be sure the school knows your work numbers.
In case something happens in a crowded area, you should already know of an escape route that is nearest to you. Crowded areas are where terrorist like to hit, causing the most damage. Let your family know that they are never to be separated in a crowded. Hold hands as you are leaving the area and carry the smaller ones.
Saving our families could determine on how well we are prepared for disasters.
Stock up on supplies early if you have the time because of all the chaos that will be going on around you.
