President asks regional govts to protect forests in UNFCCC`s spirit

"The president wants the governors and all their subordinate bureaucracies to know the central government`s concern with ragard to the issue of climate change," presidential spokesman Andi Mallarangeng said following a meeting between the president and a number of provicnial governors here Friday.

Indonesia was not only hosting the 13th Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC but also the facilitator of the Bali Roadmap which is expected to lay the basis for further climate change negotiations over the next two years, he said.

The roadmap should help create the next phase of the world`s commitment to fight climate change after the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012.
