Rainfall alert on global warming

Global warming will exacerbate rainfall extremes - both deluges and droughts - more than most climatologists have predicted, according to a study of satellite data and climate models in the journal Science today.

Experts agree that heavy rain will fall more frequently in a warmer world, because higher temperatures increase the amount of energy and water vapour that can be stored in the atmosphere. But computer models underestimate the likely intensification of rainfall, say Richard Allan of Reading university and Brian Soden of Miami.

Floods will become more frequent in wet regions while dry regions will suffer droughts, says Mr Allan. "Because rainfall worldwide is not expected to change much, the very heavy rainfall events will have to be balanced by other places becoming more dry."

stvalentine, I like this story. It's good stuff. GLOBAL WARMING together with OZONE LAYER DEPLATION cause shock heating of Ocean water, building up clouds; so to much water in the air means rainfall.

Amazing ignorance! Only very stupid people think they know what the climate will do! Dumb as a stump!Visit this site to see prodiction of surefire global freezing! It was stupid also!

Amazing that NP has continued to allow you to call people stupid for posting articles.  Nearly everyone of your unverified posts refers to people as idiots and stupid.  I guess intelligence in your mind is being able to spam comments telling people how dumb they are.

The climate is very complex and Mother Nature probably has some curve balls ready for us, but the questions and outcomes are so important to our survival that they need to be explored.  Calling people names reduces discussion to an elementary school yard level and does not help at all.

Who is Mother Nature?  Is she related to Mary?  Have you ever seen her?  Just curious because I hear that term all the time and wonder if some people actually believe in a real Mother Nature.  And why is the person allowed to be a woman when hurricanes have to be de-genderized?

stvalentine, I like this story. It's good stuff.  These articles are important.  We may not know exactly what is happening in our climate, but  we have to try to understand it.

We got no summer in the garden this summer, no veggies, no corn, no tomatoes.  Too cold and no sun to speak of.  This is probably due to Global Warming.
