Sawing timber

Today, I went for a walk at Potomac Overlook Park and saw that the lumber millers were on site to process some fallen trees.

We had several significant storms this year and that brought down some large hardwoods.  The Chief Naturalist, Martin Ogle, could let the trees rot in the woods as surely some must be left to their natural demise, or he could manage a recovery and recycling effort which is the desired course.

A saw mill operator arrived on site at the stack of timber and began the process of cutting logs into boards. Once complete, the board lumber may be used for public works projects or may be sold for appropriate uses.

In the end, the fallen trees, some of which may be a hazard are recycled for better use.

Ogle said, "We are not taking any trees from the woods.  These are all trees that have fallen onto property or that had to be taken down in and around property."
