IN the late 2000, around 36 odd rhesus macaques were released in
Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Unlike the common bonnet macaque, these
primates maintains safe distance from humans, specially in this part
of the country. Whereas in the north, the situation is otherway round.
Theses primates are very shy and run away ( like langoors ) in the
park, if they feel human presence around.I had chance to photograph
one such primate at the Vihar lake periphery, shooting this mammalian
specie. It was just an opportunity , when I was looking at the water
body, hiding in bushes, in search of leopard, and this chap posed on.
Now, the number of these monkeys is around 90-95 odd and thanks to the
census count for these figures.
