Rockefeller Brothers Fund Awards $1 Million to 1Sky

The Rockefeller Brothers Fund has announced a $1 million grant to 1Sky in Takoma Park, Maryland, to support a nationwide movement to achieve global warming policy solutions in the United States by 2010.
Led by filmmaker Gillian Caldwell, formerly the executive director of human rights organization WITNESS, the 1Sky campaign, will work to channel the interest in global warming into a focused call for national solutions to the problem equal to the scale of the climate crisis. The campaign is built around a three-part policy platform that calls for the creation of five million new jobs through the launch of a "Green Jobs" corps, the reduction of global warming pollution by at least 25 percent below 1990 levels by 2020, and the transformation of the U.S. energy priorities to create a clean energy future.

"1Sky represents the next natural phase of climate-related grantmaking for the RBF," said Michael Northrop, director of the fund's sustainable development program. "By joining together the various constituents of the climate movement, the 1Sky campaign is poised to create a coherent and coordinated movement for bold policy solutions."
