More than 20 people joined expert guides for a rocky shore ramble, at Diggers Camp, east of Grafton, Australia, as part of the local celebrations for World Oceans Day (June 8th). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Solitary Island Marine Park, Education Officer, Ellie Marks said the free walk and talk was provided to help people learn more about our shore birds and rocky headland of the Clarence coast and celebrate our oceans.
“The rocky shore at Diggers is a very special one with some amazing marine life including some great tropical species to enjoy and appreciate,” Ms Marks said.
“The rocky shore ramble is a great way to discovery the special features our local marine environment including the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Solitary Island Marine Park, and how we can reduce our impacts on the ocean,” she said.
“This popular event helps mark the 14th annual World Ocean Day, highlighting Australia’s unique marine wildlife with many species found nowhere else in the world.
“Australia’s marine waters are home to an extraordinary treasure trove of unique wildlife and habitats – including cool water sponge gardens, tropical coral reefs, whales, dolphins, turtles and starfish.
“Raising appreciation of our marine environment is an important first step to help our amazing ocean-life survive, for our children and their children to enjoy.
