Hello and thanks for this story and photos!  The bird depicted is beautiful!  Personally I have never seen one of these!  It's really sad that so many birds and other species are being lost each year due to habitat loss (due to destruction from forest practices or environmental changes due to erosion, water loss, soil degradation); so many factors are involved in the loss of habitat around the world.  Many people in my home province of British Columbia are not concerned because we have a lot of forests and parks (especially along the coastal areas) but you go further inland and you see things that one didn't notice two decades ago - and it's scary!  One of the things that hits you right away is the lack of wildlife in unprotected areas!  They are disappearing and only die hard environmentalists, biologists, and other scientists are keeping track of their declining numbers.  Our current Premier of our province does not see environmental issues as a priority whatsoever!  I expect that things may improve somewhat once a new leader is elected here!
