Samsung launches World's first solar powered touch screen phone
Samsung unveiled the world's first solar-powered touch screen phone. The phone is made from recycled plastic water bottles and is called the "Blue Earth." The phone is charged by a solar panel on the back which provides enough electricity to be used anytime.
The phone also has an energy-efficient mode which controls the screen brightness, backlight duration, and bluetooth.
The Blue Earth has an application called Eco-Walk which shows you how much CO2 you have saved by walking.
In keeping with its eco-friendly image the Electronics Giant said it had has been 'designed to symbolize a flat and well rounded shiny pebble.'
The device and extra charger are free from harmful substances such as Brominated Flame Retardants, Beryllium and Phthalate.
China's HTW S116 is a solar-charging phone as well, but Samsung Blue Earth Dream is the world's first solar powered touch screen phone.

This is really great - but what if you don't get that much sun where you live (like in Vancouver) - will that have an affect on how long it lasts or how bright it is?

lol, the video clip posted says: "you will have to leave the phone out in the sunlight to charge it, and that will attract thieves." as well as "sunlight is hard to come by."
Also what if you leave it in your pocket or for a woman, your purse. I guess you gotta buy those ugly belt clips to attach the phone onto your belt.

sweet, i was just thinking about this exact phone. I just wanted the ability to charge anytime, even on a plane. high efficiency solar cells are needed. gen1 will probably be problematic but its a good direction.

I suppose this phone would be great in places and countries where sunshine is abundant. I'm all for green efforts and actions, but this phone seems a bit gimmicky ... of course, I could be wrong ...

Finally, now we just need sunshine.
