Forecasts suggest that it might snow in San Francisco for the first time in 35 years.

A cold weather front making its way south from Canada combined with storm coming off the Pacific could produce up to 24 inches of snow in mountainous areas of California. Snow may even make its way to San Francisco.

When Will It Snow in San Francisco?

The National Weather Service suggests that rain could hit the Bay Area on Friday. They told the New York Times that it might snow in San Francisco on Saturday, February 26, 2011.

San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee told San Francisco residents to brace for snow.  City officials are preparing for the snow by asking homeless shelters to increase capacity. The Department of Public Works is also offering free sandbags to residents and businesses.

People in San Francisco, at least those online, seem to be having fun at the prospect of a mini-snow storm. Bay Area residents have created websites like Is It Snowing in SF Yet? and Is It Snowing in San Francisco?

San Francisco skiers and boarders had better step up with some Telegraph Hill jibbing videos. Wear a helmet.
