Global warming can be offset by plumbing the depths of the oceans with a gigantic array of pipes, according to two of the world’s leading environmental scientists.

Huge pipes up to 650 feet (200m) long and 33 feet (10m) in diameter should be deployed to pump nutrient-rich water to the surface to encourage plankton blooms, they proposed.

The plankton growth would take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and encourage cloud formation, which together would, they argued, cool the world and save it from global warming.
