NP Rank:
Sea plant that could save the world
Salicorn is a delicacy in France, grown in the salt marshes and sold pickled in jars. Now an American atmospheric physicist claims it could play a huge part in tackling the world's environmental problems.
The crop is salicornia. It is nourished by seawater flowing from a man-made canal. And if you believe the American who is farming it, this incongruous swath of green has the potential to feed the world, fuel our vehicles and slow global warming.

This little plant grows in abundancy at our North and south-west coast here in the Netherlands. There is only one person officially allowed to gather these plants for restaurants and markets.
It is supposed to be a delicacy, but I never ate it

I believe that all three of these photos were taken at the Grulla NWR. You should have an expert check my identification to species before publication (I'm not an expert at salicornia identification).
