Ban the import of seal products: Canada takes Fight of seal ban World Trade Organization. Products from traditional hunts by indigenous peoples in Canada and Greenland will be exempt from the ban.
Canadian Fisheries Minister Gail Shea said the regulation "specifically prohibits the marketing of products resulting from sustainable and humane commercial hunts,"
"
Canada said it would take its fight for the country's seal hunting industry to the World Trade Organization, vowing to appeal a European Union decision to ban imported seal products.
We are very disappointed with this ruling. We believe strongly this violates the World Trade Organization guidelines," International Trade Minister Stockwell Day told reporters, insisting the hunt is "humanitarian, scientific and follows environmental rules of sustainability."

A good move but of course the problem is if the products of the Inut are not controlled by labeling stamps and possibly a serial number etc. The corrupt will find away to fake that their products of seals culled as Inut products. It also may not be enough stop the annual cull!

The EU has acknowledged that a cull is needed. Their objection to this is the way it is perceived that the killing of the seals take place.
The EU didn't even debate this issue the other day.
It may not be known that these cuddly seal have also depleted the cod fish stock off the coast of Newfoundland and the fishermen of Newfoundland have been on a fishing moratorium for a while.
In the meantime fishing vessels from the EU (Spain) have been fishing inside Canadian territorial waters.
You be the judge where the motivation of the EU is. Is it hype due to high profile publicity? Heather Mills comes to mind.
Products are banned period, even though the EU has made an exemption to products produced by Inuits, how would you mark them? Inuits won't be able to sell them in Europe either.

i may be a conspiracy theorist, but i think the hidden agenda might be to eventually stop the Inuit traditional hunting way of life.
