Sealyham Terrier Dog breed 'may disappear', warns Kennel Club
The Sealyham Terrier Dog Breed, which was once so popular in the 1950s, especially with film stars, is on the brink of dying out according to the UK Kennel Club.
The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret once owned one of these dogs, but it has recently appeared on the Club's top three most endangered list, and the Club thinks one of the reasons could be the popularity of designer dogs like Shih-tzus.
The ban on tail docking in 2006 is also a reason the Club thinks they have declined in popularity.
Paul Keevil, of the Kennel Club's vulnerable breeds committee, said: "The plight of the Sealyham Terrier has been on our radar for some time as their numbers are in freefall.
"It is a breed on our vulnerable register which is giving us great cause for concern."

I have a 5 year old male Sealyham terrier, who is a wonderful pet. Although it took me a while to find a breeder, it was worth the work. Do the British breeders work with those in North America, who are also trying to keep the breed alive? Sealys have been doing very well in the big dog shows in America, so hopefully this will bring attention to the breed.
