The first newly-designed 660KW generator built by Leroy-Somer as an after market replacement for the Vestas V-47 turbine arrived in the United States this month and was unveiled by Shermco Industries at the AWEA WINDPOWER 2008 Conference & Expo in Houston.
Shipped directly from the factory in Beaucourt, France, the 660KW generator had the following features and benefits:
- Tested at 60Hz and 3000 RPM over speed for two minutes
- Glass over film wire
- Two VPI treatments
- 50 degree C ambient temperature
- V form stator winding to reduce heating
- Form wound rotor
- Class H insulation
Shermco Industries will sell and service the new generator. Chris Perry, sales manager of Shermco’s Apparatus Service Division, says the wind energy industry will greatly benefit from this upgraded version.
“The extended life and reliability of this new design will be greatly appreciated by those in the industry,” said Perry. “Its design will reduce maintenance costs over the lifetime of the unit.”
