Barns of this kind, are found mainly in Barren County,Ky. and counties that are adjoining.I asked many people why so built, before I found out. In the 1920,s in response to the collapse of the "Dark Tobacco" prices, the County Agent in Barren Co. persuaded many farmers to turn to Dairying. The barns rise vertically 3 to 5 Feet, slant out and upward at a 30 degree angle for a few feet, then return to the vertical 5 to 8 feet off of the ground. The slanted side forms a feed trough, into which hay could be easily forked into from loft.
