Smallville better or worse

Is smallville nowadays better or worse without Micheal Rosenbuam who played Lex Luthor? I think that the show was better with Clark having someone to have problems with. It is like having a yin and yan better each show. Now smallville is in its eighth season and trying to replace Lex Luthor but having so many people playing villains. But no one person can replace the funny and evil Lex Luthor.
