Snowmageddon Chaos: Snowstorm Causes 50 Car Pile Up In Virginia
The snowstorms occurring across the US caused a massive 50 car pile up today in Virginia. The accident caused chaos on the 1-64 westbound in Williamsburg, Virginia. All lanes were closed this morning while the wreckage was cleared. The I-64 re-opened later this afternoon once the 50 car pile up had been cleared by emergency crews.
Seven people were taken to hospital with minor injuries as a result of the massive pile up, but no fatalities have been reported. The whiteout conditions of what is being called "Snowmageddon" are making driving extremely dangerous. The snow, combined with 50 mph winds is resulting in extremely hazardous road conditions.
The 50 car pile up has road crews urging people to stay off the roads while these whiteout conditions continue. The accident caused traffic to back up on both sides of the highway, and took all morning to clear. Virginia State Police have responded to 25 separate incidents recently in addition to the 50 car pile up due to the recent snowstorm that has gripped the country.
