The number of hot spots this year was relatively smaller than those of last year. In August 2006 there were 37 hot spots, and the number drastically increased to 553 hot spots in September 2006, 2998 hot spots in October 2006, and 2516 hot spots in November 2006. Last year, South Kalimantan Province experienced a severe drought.

This year, some 25 hot spots were recorded in March, 8 in April, 9 in May, 4 in July, 33 in August, and 42 hot spots in September.
