The South Carolina Myrtle Beach fire that started on April 22 is still burning; it has destroyed 20,000 acres and not enough rain has fallen to help firefighters put out the flames. About an inch fell in the last few days, but more rain is needed.

The fire caused more than $20 million in damages, destroying 76 homes and damaging 96 others. No one was hurt.

Rainfall in the area this year is about 4 inches below normal.

The state of emergency has been lifted, but over 70 homes were destroyed and thousands of people were evacuated.
