Spain's wind power companies is currently third in the world for producing alternative energy sources, and they are expecting a steady growth this year, despite the economic worries of a long-term investment.

Spain's wind power business group saw a rise at the end of 2008 and they are predicting even more for this year.

"The situation could be tough for speculative firms with a temporary view, but we have always said that this business is for long-distance runners, and they are the ones that will survive."

Donoso said Spain's wind farms were on track to meet a government target of 20,000 MW in capacity by 2010.

That is great news and I wish we could say that for all countries and areas around the Globe.

I like to see the development of other power sources, too. There was a story a few weeks ago about wave power in Scotland - http://my.nowpublic.com/environment/scotland-house-first-uk-wave-farm - that I checked out with a buddy in Scotland. Her main concern was the ownership, which in the case of that wave farm was in the hands of a private company. I wonder if it's the same in Spain with the wind farms. How do we balance the research and development needed for these new power sources while ensuring that the energy is available to all citizens, particularly when the sources - waves, wind - are not owned by anyone. In British Columbia, as in other parts of Canada, many are concerned about the move from publicly-owned to privately-owned power. Anyone who's interested in that can check it out on the Citizens for Public Power website at http://www.citizensforpublicpower.ca.

Good move. Most people are frustrated with the present system, it is so depressing.  People can make a difference.

According to local media (http://www.ideal.es/granada/20080223/provincia/iberdrola-inaugura-mayor-parque-20080223.html) this wind power plant is planed to be the largest in the world.

I am not so sure about wind power. It makes too much noise pollution, and takes up a lot of room, destroying the environment.
