A demonstration outside the Heavy Oil Conference in Calgary, Alberta drawing attention to the $2 billion dollar subsidy to the oil industry in Alberta for Carbon Sequestration programs and to the massive devastation to the environment that is underway in the northern part of Alberta and Saskatchewan to recover oil from the Tarsands.
Recently, the ongoing oil extraction operations in the northern half of the province of Alberta have been receiving a great deal of negative attention, not just in Canada, but around the World. For instance, at the US Mayors conference in June 2008, more than 80 mayors approved a resolution calling on its members to ban the use of energy from unconventional sources because of its impact on the environment.
