Spawing Alaskan Sockeye Salmon

After returning from their life at sea, these Pacific Sockeye Salmon (better know here as Reds) are going through their spawning cycle and will soon die here in the lake. They turn this brilliant red color at the end of their life cycle.

These reach sizes up 2.8 feet (86 cm) in length and weigh an average of 8 pounds (3.6 kg).

It's a smelly matter when they all begin to die!
