State plantation firms form consortium to produce biofuel

"We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the formation of a consortium to build a biofuel and biodiesel factory. We hope construction of the factory can be started in the second semester of this year," PTPN VII President Director Andi Punoko said here on Monday.
He said in the first stage, the factory would meet the need for biofuel energy of the four state-owned plantation companies concerned.
The four PTPNs which had set up the consortium were PTPN III, PTPN IV, PTPN V and PTPN VII, he said on the sidelines of a presentation of a plan to hold a World Palm Oil Summit and Exhibition (WPOSE) 2008.
Andi said although the factory was initially intended to meet the energy needs of the PTPNs, it was not impossible that it would also turn out biofuel and biodiesel energy for commercial purposes.
