Protector Shoal is a submarine volcano which rises to about 27 m (90 ft) below sea level to the northwest of Zavodovski Island in the South Sandwich Islands chain.
Protector Shoal is the only volcano in the South Sandwich islands that has erupted rhyolite pumice. It is located at the northern end of the South Sandwich Islands. Pumice from an eruption in 1962 reached New Zealand.

There have been some very weird earthquakes and swarms in the U.S. recently. I couldn't stand living in an earthquake zone!

Thanks PEP I don't think there will be much damage from this earthquake, but am watching to see if it effects the volcano.

For years I have been fascinated by the connection between earthquakes and volcanoes. Ever notice that sometimes, when there's a big earthquake over *here* that sometimes there's a following volcano eruption over *there*--on the "other side" of the globe? And vice versa.
