Strong earthquake hits the Kanto region in Japan
A strong earthquake was felt in the metropolitan Tokyo area on Friday evening.
The quake registered 5-minus on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7 in the city of Mouka in southern Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
There is no possibility of a tsunami.
The Meteorological Agency says a preliminary estimate puts the quake at magnitude 5-point-5, with a focus 60 kilometers underground in southern Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo.
The last large Kanto earthquake of 1923, devastated Tokyo and many believe that Tokyo is overdue for another great Kanto earthquake. This latest earthquake certainly serves as a reminder of what may still come.
