A stong and shallow earthquake, with a 5.7 magnitude has hit western Xizang, also known as Tibet.

The earthquake hit at 11:12 am local time, and it's not clear if there are any casualties or any serious damage. There are no large cities near the epicenter.

The earthquake struck about four miles deep, making it an extremely shallow earthquake. Shallow earthquakes often cause more damage.
