Annual Day celebrated at Ghorakhori Inter College
MUSSOORIE/GHORAKHORI, 25 Nov: A mesmerising play, “Save the Trees”, staged by the Science Club students was the highlight of the Annual Day Function held at Ghorakhori Inter College, 15 kms from Nainbagh, here, today.
The students, parents and teachers gathered to celebrate the function organised by the Parent-Teacher Association of the College.
The celebration began with Chief Guest Ratan Singh Gunsola lighting the ceremonial lamp along with Tehri Zila Panchayat President and the MLA, Dhanaulti, Khajan Das, Subhash Ramola and Mira Saklani.
This was followed by Saraswati Vandana and a welcome song. Dr Uday Gaur presented the annual college report of 2008. Ranbir Singh and Balbir Rawat presented a memorandum demanding science equipment, computers and furniture for the school.
The cultural programme presented by the students began with a Bhajan, patriotic song and a one-act play on the environment, in which they highlighted the importance of saving trees and conservation. The student scientists of the school also held a discussion on environment on the occasion. Several other cultural programmes depicting folk traditions of the region were presented by the students.
The prize distribution ceremony was also held to conclude the celebrations in which the students, who have excelled in the year, were honoured by the Chief Guest.
Principal Acchey Lal Kanaujia, lecturers Amar Singh, Dr Uday Gaur, Chang Lal Prajapati, Lokendra Rawat, Surendar Pundir, Rashmi Panwar, Chandra Mohan Kotnala, Zakir Hussain and other school staff were felicitated on the occasion.
The students who received awards and citations included Nisha, Anju, Anup Kumar, Babita, Jitendar and Rajesh for participating in the regional competitions.
Lalita Negi, Savita, Priyanka, Kulbir Singh, Sharmila, Gita Panwar, Monica, Yashpal and Lalit Shah were felicitated for state and national level activities. The student were also awarded for taking part in the National Science Congress in which Bhupendar Singh, Sudipta Rawat for 2007 and Amit Panwar, Rajiv Bisht, Shushil Kandari, Ravinder Sajwan, Ashish Kandari for 2008 received awards on the occasion.
Ratan Singh Gunsola said that education was the true wealth of the country and it was important to impart values to the children so that they excelled in future endeavours.
He also granted funds for the boundary wall of the school and a stage, as demanded by the students and teachers.
Khajan Das granted funds for furniture and science equipment. He commended the efforts of students and teachers, pointing out that this was the only Government School in the area that had earned a name for itself by providing excellent results.
The President of the PTA, Devendar Panwar, proposed the vote of  thanks and promised support for the activities of the college.
