Sumatra Earthquake January 11, 2012: Tsunami Warning for Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 7.3 in magnitude struck off the coast of northern Sumatra at just after midnight on January 11 2012.

The Sumatra quake triggered a tsunami warning in Indonesia, as residents of Aceh saw the ocean recede as it did before the 2004 tsunami that killed roughly 200,000 people. In this case, no tsunami resulted, and the warning was lifted.

There have been no reports of major damage or serious injury so far.
