A Super Moon Will Take Place on Saturday, May 5, 2012. When is the Super Moon and What Time is the Best Time To Watch?

Astronomy fans will be gazing into the skies on Saturday, May 5, 2012. That's because of a so-called "supermoon," which occurs when the moon's orbit closely approaches the Earth while in full phase.

That means that supermoon will be about 14 per cent closer to earth than it normally is.

If the past is any indication, the May 5, 2012 Supermoon could produce some great images.

When is the best time to Watch the Super moon 2012?

According to Space.com, the moon's perigee is May 5 at 11:35 p.m. EDT (0335 Sunday GMT). According to one article, the best time to watch the Supermoon would be about 20 minutes before that.

That being said, the Super moon should be noticeable onlookers even a day prior to super moon and the size wouldn’t come down till a day later.

Some people think that the Super Moon can cause natural disasters. Many thought that a super moon played a role in last year's massive Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Studies, however, indicate otherwise.
