Surfer and miner Nicholas Edwards, a father of two, was killed in a shark attack at Cowaramup Bay, near Margaret River, Western Australia.

Nick Edwards had had a near miss with a shark when surfing at Gold Coast, Queensland, a few years earlier, but never gave up on surfing. His mother, Leona Lindner, insists that the shark not be hunted down, saying that her son was well aware of the risks associated with surfing.

Two local surfers tried to resuscitate him and stop the bleeding from his shredded right leg after pulling him unconscious from the water, but Mr Edwards died on the way to Margaret River hospital.
