Solar power beamed down from space will generate electricity for California homes as soon as 2016, under a new plan by a utility company to ramp up renewable energy technology far beyond solar panels on roofs.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) is set to purchase 200-megawatt space solar power from Solaren Corporation.

The technology would capture energy using solar panels on satellites orbiting the sun. The technology would use radio frequency to send the energy to Earth. PG&E would then convert it, and feed it into the power grid.
The greatest advantage of such technology is that it can harness the suns energy constantly. It is hoped that this technology will provide enough electricity for Californian homes by 2016.
Kudos Pacific Gas & Electric Co. and Solaren Corporation for your futuristic move in providing clean sustainable energy.
