Out of all the photos I've seen thus far, this one effected me the most. The memories from this place for the first 30 years of my life was too many to mention. Thank you so much for posting it. It hurts but I know Texas City will rebuild. If that city can come back from the Disaster 60 years ago, it can certainly do it again. God's blessings to you all. Love, from Oregon

That place had the best fishing in the whole area... I cannot believe it is gone.

I still cannot believe our beloved dike is gone. I know with Texas City's history, they will rebuild but for now it is a sad sight. Since the "welcome to the Texas City Dike" sign is still hanging by the bait camp. I think we should add a banner that says, "Ike destroyed us but cannot defeat us."

Here are some informational web links with pictures of the TC Dike before Ike and a recent story in the Galveston Daily News concerning the closure. Someday soon the TC Dike will reopen, until then we all can live with the fond memories of this unique area that juts out into lower Galveston Bay.

Regarding history of the dike. As a former member of the McGinnes family, I was once told the McGinnes Corporation got their start by helping build the dike. Those family members involved in building the dike would have all passed by now, but the family still lives in the Santa Fe and Alvin area.

My husband and I have been going to the dike for the past 25 years. On our honeymoon we did some fishing at the dike. It it a horrifying sight to see. Our hearts are broken. We do not live in Texas city but we spent alot of time and share good memories there.. We hope to see it rebuilt real soon.......

The pictures of the dike. Totally has upset me. I grew up in Texas City. The dike was my haven. I enjoyed many fishing and crabbing and swimming. I would like to see other photos of the entire city. I have moved out of the state of Texas. I reside in Olympia, Washington State. I was a resident of Texas City for 21 yrs. I still consider it my hometown. I would love to see the town come back to full capacity. My god be with you all. During this trial of tribulation.

I walked down for about 2 miles a couple days ago and took some pictures. Yesterday, I rode a mountain bike to the very end. The lighted pier at the end is completely gone as shown in the photo above. It is very strange not seeing it out there. But, what is even more strange is the dead silence that you notice while out there. Usually, you hear cars going by, kids laughing, music playing, etc... Now, nothing.

One more thing. I am working on a book for historical reference over the hurricane. I would like to include some personal memories in the book as well. If you have any memories that you would like to share, please email them to me, along with your name at r0ckstarr79@gmail.com and I will take them into consideration.
Thank you.

when will it be open for fishing?

It's going to be a while. Rumor's are a year from what I am hearing. They have to completely scrape the road and re-surface it so it is at least drive-able. Then get trucks and tractors out there to sort through and clean up the debris.
But, on the bright side of a dark cloud, think about how much better the fishing will be.
