Texas Wildfires Close In On Dallas

The wildfires ravaging Texas are getting closer to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The fires, which started in western Texas, have been fueled by dry weather and low humidity, causing entire towns to evacuate. Possum Kingdom State Park has been almost entirely burned.

Over a thousand square miles have been consumed by the latest Texas fires during the past week.

According to the Texas Forest Service, most of the 8,000 wildfires reported this year were started by people, either accidentally or intentionally. Trash-burning is still common in rural Texas, and the unusually dry conditions have made that practice even more dangerous.

Now the wildfires are only around 60 miles from Dallas-Fort Worth.
