Thad Allen: BP Must Complete Relief Well for Bottom Kill
Bottom Kill: BP Must Complete Relief Well after Static Kill
Retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, handling the BP oil spill crisis on behalf of the US Government, stated that BP must complete its relief well, saying, "We will kill the well." The maneuver, called Bottom Kill, will drill into the Macondo well and fill it with cement, sealing in the remaining barrels of oil.

The next step is to figure out how to approach Bottom Kill in a way that prevents the added pressure of the cement from over-pressurizing the capped pipe.
BP and government engineers and scientists studied the results Friday of pressure tests on the well that was sealed earlier this month when cement was pumped downward into the well bore in an operation called a "static kill."
