On May 31st of 2007 the philadelphia zoo had its second batch of tiger cubs. On may 31st 2008 they are having a party for the cubs. I assume it will be a day filled with venders selling goods to support the zoo.
The Philadelphia zoo has a very remarkable success rate with their breeding program. Starting back in the 90's with a number of rare white lion cubs. They had two litters with a white tiger in each litter. Though these lions are a little yellow in color these two special cubs were actually white. Now as an adult the female is to be breed from my understanding. The keeper informed me that she may as soon as this year be sent to other zoo's for breeding.
I have added her photo and the tiger cubs from a few months old to present. They have brought in another male so i assume they will be breeding her in the future once again. The Big Cat area has been dramatically changed i have added a photo from the old to the new. I personally like the old better. On a good note it give everyone the opportunity too get close-up shots that I get with my 500mm 4.0 lens.
The new area also allows outside shot of more then just the lions and tigers. Among the animals on exhibit are a black panther, mountain lions, clouded leopard, and a variety of other cats. The philadelphia zoo is one of america's first zoo's and as long as you don't judge by the area and outer appearance it is a day full of fun and tons of information. Their public relations is top notch you have a question and either a volunteer or a keeper is all but willing to answer your questions.
