Thousands struggle with aftermath of Hurricane Jimena

You probably saw something on the news about Hurricane Jimena - a monster storm that supposedly ended up blowing out to sea, causing less harm than expected.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the news media lost interest when weather forecasters lost interest. Jimena regrouped instead of disappearing, and has caused untold misery to thousands in Baja California and in the northern Mexican state of Sonora.

NowPublic carried this great story a couple of days ago, but since then the situation has worsened.

Some of us who spend a lot of time in Mexico - sailboat and airplane owners, semi-permanent residents, tourists - are getting engaged in relief efforts to help rush emergency supplies to Guaymas, Santa Rosalia, Mulege, Santa Clara, San Jose, San Carlos, Cuidad Constitucion, and other places. The Baja Bush Pilots Association has a fleet of about 30 private planes ready to deliver supplies at the present time. Another group centered in San Carlos is already gathering supplies. The Mexican Red Cross - Cruz Rojo Mexicana - is ready to accept your help.
