A Seminar on   the topic “Use of Plastic is Injurious to Mother Earth” organised by the Environmental Club Tibetan Homes School Mussoorie was held in the auditorium of the school yesterday. The chief guest on the occasion was Mr.Padamvir Singh IAS Joint Director,LBSNAA Mussoorie. The other invited guest speakers on the occasion were Sudhir Thapliyal (eminent scholar, journalist and author),Vipin Kumar eminent environmentalist, Dr.Sunil Sanon (MD) (eminent environmentalist and sociologist) and Tsering Paljor PGT in geography THS and environment enthusiast.

Mr Yangkyap Norbu Principal THS welcomed the chief guest and invited guests on the occasion. Tashi Phuntsok, General Secretary THS Mussoorie in his introductory speech said that the school was blessed with the presence of the distinguished panelist and their thoughts and suggestion would invigorate the children to actively participate in the clean Happy Valley.

The first speaker Vipin Kumar addressing the gathering on the topic of Plastic management said that without thorough management the menace can not be curbed. He also highlighted the importance of segregating the garbage for proper recycling.Dr.Sudhir Thapliyal highlighted the importance of conservation and how the pollution was affecting our planet adversely.

The environmental pollution was leading to climate change in the whole world hence it was the need of an hour to conserve our surrounding to stop this phenomenon of global warming and this could happen only if we are aware at school level. Dr.Sunil Sanon spoke on the importance of Health and waste mismanagement .Tsering Palzor addressed the gathering with the help of slide presentation about general environmental awareness and what harm the plastic was causing to the environment. He explained it through detailed statistics.

 Padamvir Singh Joint Director LBSNAA Mussoorie in his address commended the efforts of the Tibetan Homes School in creating awareness in such magnitude in happy valley. He also said that his dream was to see Happy Valley, really happy and this could happen when it will be clean and free of the menace called plastic. He also laid the emphasis on segregation which could be done by keeping plastic wrappers of chocolates and toffees in the pockets and segregating the plastic in Homes. He said that need for keeping the surrounding clean was essential as “Cleanliness is near to Godliness.” The Nagar Palika will be providing dustbins and all the plastic and garbage should go inside the dustbin.

He also requested the students to stop tourists also from throwing the plastic along the hill –side.He also requested the student that the Lid of the dustbin should be shut to avoid the monkeys from littering the garbage. Mr.Vipin Kumar who has been working in the field of Solid waste management aid that if the school stored plastic garbage at one place he was ready to provide necessary arrangements for its transportation. The prizes were also given to the winners of the painting competition held on the theme of environment. The first prize went to Pempa Tsering Class X-D, the second prize went to Tashi Lhamo class XII-D, 3RD Prize was won by Tenzin Jordan class XI- D.

The president of the environment Club THS Lhakpa Kalden also informed that the school has made few eco-friendly cloth carry bags costing Rs.10 which will be distributed to the staff and students alike today. In the end Mrs Sona.Dolma Jr.High School Head Mistress thanked guest staff and students on the occasion and hoped that such awareness program will be a regular feature in the school.

Environmental awareness programme on 7 Nov

MUSSOORIE, 5 Nov: Eminent scholars and environmentalists like Joint Director Padamvir Singh of LBSNAA, Dr Sunil Sanon, Sudhir Thapliyal, Vipin Gupta and Tsering Palzer will speak at the Tsering Dolma Auditorium at Tibetan Homes School in Mussoorie on 7 November.
According to Tashi Phuntsok, General Secretary of the Tibetan Homes Foundation, the speakers will share their views on the topic, “Use of Plastic is Injurious to Mother Earth.” The programme will begin at 1.45 p.m on 7 November.
The other topics to be covered will be banning of plastic in Mussoorie and other environmental issues.
