Here it is, Times Square, the most famous intersection in the world. Millions of tourists come to see the bowtie-shaped square, with its magnificent lights and Broadway shows. Street artists usually are found here, as well as a statue of George M. Cohan, the original song-and-dance man of Broadway.
Orginally called for Longacre Square for its length and its area, the name was changed when the New York Times newspaper set up shop around the corner at West 43rd Street. Thus the concept of naming rights was born . . . and why we have outrageously vulgar names like "U.S. Cellular Field" for the Chicago White Sox stadium and the "Pepsi Center" arena in Albany, New York.
Oh yeah, I like "Longacre Square" better.
