When Falcons Attack

When researchers from Ohio Department of Natural Resource’s Division of Wildlife climbed to the top of the clock tower at the University of Toledo to band a nest of falcon chicks, the mama falcon was not amused. In fact, she did what mama falcons do: swoop in and try to destroy anyone messing with her kids.

Check out the video below, in which an irate falcon attacks the researchers. The mama falcon's name is Belle. Her husband, Allen, wasn't around. Daniel Miller posted this falcon attack photo to Facebook: not a situation in which you want to find yourself.

Ohio wildlife crews will bring the baby birds down from their top-of-the-tower nest and give each one a leg identification band so that it can be tracked after it migrates from its birthplace. Blood also will be drawn from the chicks and they will be weighed to help determine their overall health.
