I know it's a little early to be talking about Earth Day, which is set for March 29th, but the spirit of the Bali climate change conference has stirred up the press to start writing about it anyway (and the fact that the holidays are upon us and there is little news). Earth Day is now being recognized through Earth Hour - where you turn off everything! I mean everything, from the fridge to the Blackberry. And the city of Toronto is officially participating.
Do you think they are going to turn off the alarm systems too?
Toronto is among a dozen other cities worldwide that will participate in Earth Hour by turning off lights and appliances for an hour on March 29, from 8 to 9 p.m., to symbolize the people's commitment to tackling global warming. Sponsors of the Toronto event include WWF-Canada, the City of Toronto and the Toronto Star
Other cities committed to Earth Hour include Chicago, Auckland, Tel Aviv, Copenhagen, Manila, Suva in Fiji, and Sydney, Australia, where the event started this year.

Great idea, but how am I going to know when the hour is up? By the shadows cast across my sundial? By winding my pocketwatch?
