The US midwest has been battered by tornadoes in recent days and weeks. The state of Nebraska has seen some dramatic tornado activity, including this Youtube footage of a tornado some weeks prior.
Buffalo County's emergency manager reports a tornado swept through Kearney Thursday evening, causing extensive damage to trees and homes.A damaged power line forced the closure of I-80 between Aurora and York just before 8 p.m.
Photos from Newswatch 7 storm chasers show roofs removed from buildings and cars stacked on top of one another.
The storm front has downed several NPPD transmission, sub-transmission, and distribution lines in the Kearney area and left approximately 12,000 customers without power in the community. The areas primarily impacted are the northwest, northeast and southeast portions of the city.
Emergency manager Al Berndt said the severe weather destroyed the Buffalo County fairgrounds and damaged campus housing at the University of Nebraska-Kearney around 5:30 p.m.

I think this is an important story and would benefit from other NowPublic contributors working on it. I've flagged it as News Wanted and invite others in relevant locations to look for more evidence.

As the photographer who took this photo, I am awed by the power of nature. I give thunderstorms like this one a wide bearth during my flights . There is nothing more important than the safety of the plane and passengers.

This cloud was directly above my house in Omaha, Nebraska. As you can see, it was swirling; on top of that, out of nowhere, intense rain shower, lighting, thunder, and wind hit. The storm was pretty intense but over within a matter of minutes. This cloud moved to Iowa where it later turned in to a tornado.
