A tornado has touched down in Birmingham, Alabama, has downed major power lines and trees and could cause flooding in the area. Tornado warnings are in effect for the rest of the day. Many strong storms are reported for this area and heavy rain is moving through that region.

Meteorologists in Huntsville said up to 2 inches of rain is expected across the Tennessee Valley region over the weekend. Rainfall will also be heavy across central and southern counties.
