A tornado touched down in Brunswick County, at approximately 3:15 p.m., according to Sgt. Michelle Cotten with Virginia State Police.

She tells WAVY.com the tornado destroyed two homes in the Freeman area.

There are reports of trees down and flooding on Route 58, due to heavy rain.

There is also a tornado watch in Greensville County and a tornado warning in Isle of Wight Co. Franklin city and Southampton Co.

An EMS worker confirms reports that a tornado hit Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk.

Dale Gauding, spokesperson for Sentara Hospitals, tells WAVY.com personnel at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk reported seeing a funnel cloud close to the hospital this afternoon.

There are reports of broken windows in the Emergency Department and vehicles damaged in the parking lot.

Gauding says the hospital is functioning at 100% and no one in the hospital was hurt.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Severe storms have swept through parts of central and southern Virginia, causing some property damage and flash flooding.

Witnesses tell Richmond television station WWBT that cars were overturned in the Southpark Mall area of Colonial Heights. A police dispatcher there hung up the phone Monday afternoon, saying authorities were too busy to talk.

Property damage also was reported in Brunswick County, one of several localities where the National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning.
