Tropical Storm Hermine Gathers Strength in Gulf of Mexico

Tropical Storm Hermine is gathering strength in the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Watch is in effect from Rio San Fernando in Mexico, up to Baffin Bay in Texas.  Tropical storm warnings are in effect for La Cruz, Mexico up to Port O'Connor, Texas.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 50 MPH...85 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST AND HERMINE COULD APPROACH HURRICANE STRENGTH PRIOR TO LANDFALL. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 105 MILES...165 KM FROM THE CENTER.
Coastal south Texas was put under a tropical storm warning from the mouth of the Rio Grande to near Corpus Christi, an indication winds of at least 63 kph are expected within the next day, according to the advisory. The coast of Mexico from the U.S. border south to Tampico was also under a warning, it said.
