Tropical Storm Katia Forms East of Cape Verde Islands

Tropical Storm Katia, the 11th named storm in the 2011 hurricane season, has formed west of the Cape Verde Islands, and is moving west. Katia's wind speed is currently 45mph, but it is expected to reach hurricane force by August 31, and is predicted to reach Category Three strength.

Will Hurricane Katia Hit the United States?

Katia's projected path does not take it to the US, though it could threaten Bermuda if it veers too far north, and could also threaten Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, and the Virgin Islands if it keeps heading west.

I think that after Hurricane Irene, everyone should look into purchasing preparedness kits. It doesn't hurt to be prepared in times like these. I don't feel that it's necessary to panic or be scared about Hurricane Katia, but I do think that people should really look into these types of kits. I actually just bought one for my family at 1800prepare.com/
