New Orleans Faces Tropical Storm Lee

As predicted, Tropical Depression 13 is now Tropical Storm Lee, which is heading northwest across the Gulf of Mexico. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in place from Sabine Pass, Texas to Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Tropical Storm Lee has sustained winds of 40mph, and is expected to dump up to 15 inches of rain onto New Orleans over the weekend. Lee's winds are expected to strengthen to 65mph, and it will hit the coast in around 24 hours.

Storm surges are also expected along the the coasts of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The forecast predicts that Texas, suffering from a historic drought, will not benefit from the extra rain, as the storm will move towards the northeast once it hits land.
