The Texas Department of Transportation is urging motorists to stay of Texas roads and highways if possible for Super Bowl weekend, and if driving to exercise caution and be aware of road closures.

In a news release TxDot said "The Texas Department of Transportation TxDOT has been working around the clock trying to improve road conditions in time for this weekend's Super Bowl after a storm dumped ice and snow on the area.  The TxDOT crews have used snow plows, de-icing trucks, and spreader boxes to try and clear the roads for commuters and travelers into the area.

The Texas Department of Transportation closed Highway 77 and 83 on Thursday morning in the area of Harlingen and Brownsville due to many wrecks in the area.  TxDOT officials have asked the public to try and stay off the roads during the continued Friday mix of freezing rain and snow which has hampered the cleaning crews from clearing the roads around Dallas."

txDot has a toll free number Texans can call to inquire about road closure.
